MAKING OF

PRELUDE

Hurtado connected with Club Rambutan, a creative collective and magazine based in PHX, SF, & NYC, via invitation on Instagram. She joined their prompt-based challenge to create three looks based on three of the Seven Deadly Sins. Hurtado chose Wrath, Envy, and Sloth, as she felt particularly connected to them.

At the time, Hurtado was inspired by Dark Fantasy (Labyrinth, The Dark Crystal, Corpse Bride, etc.) and sought to imbue her designs with this character. This collection continues her trend for combining popular culture and cult-classic media with fashion design to create pieces that look stunning and tell a captivating story; a world made of fabric.

WRATH

Hurtado conceived wrath as the “damaged” one, seeking to balance beauty with a strategic dishevelment—this was the motive behind the asymmetrical application of the knit outer layer along the skirt that creates the appearance of the dress falling apart. It was also why a smeared makeup look was chosen. The piece is complemented by an ornate, horned mask, which conceals the face, allowing the model to more fully embody the spirit of Wrath.

SLOTH

Hurtado leaned into the emotional foundations of Sloth, feelings of disassociation and brain rot that trap a person in their bed. The design features a “drowned” quality, with the dress and veil shrouding the model, overwhelming them in fabric. The materials were chosen for their texture and appearance, which mimic the feel of bedsheets; the partially hand-knit sections featured knots to mimic creased bedsheets. The look has a haunted quality to it that makes it an instant stand-out!

What’s Next?

The Club Rambutan Collaboration was the genesis of Hurtado’s developing Seven Deadly Sins collection. She is currently working on four additional looks to complete the set: Pride, Greed, Lust, and Gluttony. Together, they represent a fully-realized mythology that combines Dark Fantasy with traditional knitwear. The full collection will debut at LA Fashion Week 2026, through another collaboration with The Bureau.

ENVY

Envy is, in the words of Hurtado, the “jealous bitch” who’s always striving to be what she can’t ever be. The design was inspired by Medusa, emphasizing the tragic nature of envy and motivating the green palette (reptile-esque) and vine-like pattern of the bodice, which mimics Medusa’s slithering hair (It is also Hurtado’s signature pattern). The piece is complemented by a mask adorned with snakes and hints of gold to emphasize envy’s toxic connection with greed.
